This guesthouse offers breakfast and dinner. The chef/owner possesses advanced cooking skills and uses local ingredients including goat cheese made onsite. Guests feel as if they are dining in a high end restaurant. The hosts wholeheartedly look after guests, are open to sharing experiences and entertain without intrusion. Despite our late arrival, they provided a warm welcome and delicious dinner.

I was lucky to have the place to myself. Location was great. Nakamura San recommended a nice restaurant nearby called Ichiyoshi. Staff isn’t on site but I was ok with that.

The private house was right on the Kumano.
We stayed only one night but wish it was longer.
Shino is the perfect host! After eating breakfast at her cafe, we went to board the bus across the street. I completely forgot my bag. Shino made sure I got it back! She had the bus company flag down the bus we were on and delivered it to me.
Her homemade meals and warm accommodations will not be forgotten any time soon!!

Staff was able to provide information clearly and was fluent in English. He was also very kind to pick us up from the train station for free. He also provided suggestions for sight seeing and restaurants. Highly recommend the accommodation due to the service and facilities.

Tanabe was our starting point for our Kumano Kodo trek so we stayed in Tanabe only one day not realizing how much there is to do in Tanabe. If we ever come to Tanabe again, we will be sure to stay longer to enjoy all that there is to do there. I think we could have stayed a whole week if we weren't going on our trek.

Having visited Japan so many times, this trip was probably the best of all. I followed the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage and experienced both the people, the culture and the religion of ancient Japan. I spent in total about 4 days walking and all of the accommodations (family run b&b and a hot spring hotel) was all very clean, with tasty food and friendly people. I'd love to go back again and experience the other less famous trails of the same region.

A great little town, and ideal jumping-off point for the Kumano Kodo Pilgrimage.
The pub quarter was a fun place to get a drink and dinner: great Tako Yaki.
Both the Tanabe Tourist Information Centre staff and the Kumano Kodo Travel staff were impeccably professional and helpful in making arrangements for the pilgrimage walk. Cannot rate their quality of service highly enough.
These two great hosts built the coziest, most beautiful and comfortable cute place which feels like home in heaven thanks to their great hospitality also. It’s super clean and everything for your comfort is well taken care of with an excellent eye for the details. Add to this the most delicious and special fresh cooked French/Japanese cuisine delicacies and you would not want to leave just like we didn’t. It’s also so conveniently located right in the middle of the Kumano Kodo trail! Definitely want to go back!:)
The host was so friendly and helpful. In the morning were cooked a delicious breakfast and after that realised that the bus we didn’t to catch wasn’t for another couple of hours. The owner offered to take us to the bus stop and couldn’t do enough to help. He went out of his way to make sure we were comfortable and had everything we needed as well. The location is great for the Kumano Kodo walk and there is a hot springs directly across the road from the hotel.
Simon was a wonderful host. He tried to help us have the best experience possible on our Kumano Kodo. Is also just a lovely human. The accommodation is in the most gorgeous place, because it was not in a central location. Simon works very hard to shuttle his guests to and from Tanabe and the trailhead. The house itself is beautiful and we enjoyed talking to him and learning about his small village of 70 people.
Location super handy. The highlight was Aki (I hope I haven't butchered your name), who was such a tremendously helpful soul. He basically planned my route for me to walk the Kumano Kodo, including making a phone call for me, which would have been difficult as I have no Japanese, nor international sim. He even continued to answer questions for me after I checked out! What a star.
This is an excellent private room / guest house prior to starting your Kumano Kodo. Quick walk to and from the train station / tourist agency. Plenty of restaurants abound in the near area, but make reservations! Air conditioning worked like a charm in late July with high humidity. The 2nd story balcony / porch was great for hanging my clothes out to dry.
It was perfect size for 3 of us. There were beautiful views of rice fields when we woke up in the morning. Shino was our host. She made us beautiful and delicious meals, and was a delight to talk and laugh with! She gave us really good suggestions on doing the Kumano Kodo, we wouldn't have been able to complete it if she hadn't.
This was our 3rd visit to Kumano Kodo winery, and as always, we had a fabulous stay. Giovanni and Yutaka are the best hosts, very warm and welcoming, dinner and breakfast are always outstanding, delicious and beautiful, the room and beds are very comfortable and the rural location is unique, with a beautiful view on the sea.
I Stayed at Guest house Kiyohime before starting the Kumano kodo hike. The hosts were very welcoming and friendly and prepared a delicious dinner and a lunchbox for me. The owner was also kind to drive me to the trailhead in the morning. Amazing stay with wonderful hosts in the heart of nature. Thank you!
Japanese style room in traditional house in the alley close to Tanabe railways and bus station. Nearby there are plenty of small restaurants and it is at 50m from a main road with all shops. Common kitchen and bathrooms. Friendly owner. Shared living room with local interest books available.
The host is very kind and picked us up from Kii Tanabe and dropped us off at the start of the Kumano Kodo trail. The house itself is also beautiful, clean and well taken care of. The value for money is really excellent. The host really puts in proper love and effort!
Gorgeous views from the rooms and the public baths.
The rooms were kept nice and cool which made the hot Japanese summer days more bearable. Very friendly and competent staff. Delicious meals for dinner and generous buffet breakfast.
We were able to arrange a pick up from Kii-Tanabe station, which was very helpful. Also able to do a vegetarian Bento box, which was delicious. The accommodation itself very comfortable. Great way to start the Kumano Kodo.
This is a great location, just a 5ish minute walk to the Tanabe train station. If that is important to you when booking - then stay here! The space is no frills, shared bathroom, kitchen and seating area.
The host was friendly and helpful. Appreciate she allowed us to keep our luggage after we check out. The place closes to Kiitanabe train and bus station. Easy to find food around
