Sansuikan Kawayu Midoriya, hotel in Hongu

Boasting beautiful open-air baths facing Ohto River, Sansuikan Kawayu Midoriya offers both Japanese and Western-style rooms.

Staff was really nice - she gave us recommendations of dinner places near by and she also made our reservations calling to the restaurant. Another staff gave us recommendations of lunch place close to Hongu that was great. And he gave us excellent guidance about how to navigate Nachi Taisha, going up with car via charging gate. My husband needed cane, the staff’s advice made our trip much easier and enjoyable! We’re really thankful for thoughtful and friendly staff.

Watarase Onsen Hotel Sasayuri, hotel in Hongu

Watarase Onsen Hotel Sasayuri offers accommodations in Hongu. Guests can enjoy the on-site restaurant. All rooms are fitted with a flat-screen TV with satellite channels.

The onsen! There were 3 onsen options: 1. Big thermal baths inside the main hotel building 2. Small external private baths in the main hotel building 3. Big natural thermal bath in the other side of the river I think the external private baths were a very welcome luxury. The location was isolated which is what we were looking for, very relaxing. The view from the rooms was like a painting and the river side and bridge were beautiful when surrounded by pink flowers. Breakfast was quite complete and tasty, it was never the same. The service was very attentive, without us asking they accompanied us after the check out to offer taking a picture of us on the nice bridge.

Guest House Takiyoshi in Hongu features accommodations with free Wifi 8.6 miles from Hosshinmon Oji Shrine, 13 miles from Kumanokodo Nakahechi Museum of Art, and 16 miles from Kumanoshi Kiwakozan...

The guest house was perfectly located in Yunomine Onsen, right across from the bus stop. The owners were unbelievably gracious and kind, and prepared the best (and most beautiful) meal we had during our Kumano Kodo hike. The private onsen was a blessing after a full day of hiking, and the room was clean and cozy. We couldn’t recommend this guest house more highly.

There's so much beauty and serenity in visiting this area.

There's so much beauty and serenity in visiting this area. It was relatively quiet during the early winter season but perfect hiking conditions. Food / meal areas were a little sparse and not as exciting but invigorating to experience the pilgramage walk.

It's the heart of the Kumano Kodo. There are numerous beautiful trails and trains in the area. The mountains and rivers surrounding it are fantastic. I have lived in Japan for 35 years and find this one of the nicer areas to experience beautiful Japanese Fall.

This is a beautiful part of Japan.

This is a beautiful part of Japan. We lived in Japan but had never been to this area. Full of walkers. We are not walkers but easily did a full day on the Kuman Kodo. We easily moved around by bus . They are not frequent so pay attention to the timetable Wonderful onsen baths. Lovely walks Koyasan was revelation and we regretted not staying longer We cancelled Taiji when we realised that is where they capture and slaughter dolphins

We arrived in Kuwaya Onsen from Tanabe early in the afternoon so had time to rest and visit the river. The next day we walked the Kumano Kodo trail from Ukegawa to Koguchi (13km, ca 4-5 hrs). A very beautif hike with a few climbs. Plan your trip well as there a few busses from/to Ukegawa and Koguchi. Make sure to bring enough water and a lunch as you cannot buy it on the way. Wonderful experience!

Fascinating, I had not intended to spend four days in one location when I came here. The temples are magnificent and the cultural heritage centre kept me reading for some time. A beautiful walk up the hill to an Onsen where I enjoyed the medicine bath, and caught the bus back to my Onsen. I hired a car in Shingu and travelled the coast road to the light house and the pearl diving museum and back up to Kii Tenabe and back to my Onsen. Wonderful coffee at the cafe Sei in Hongu. Enjoyed their gallery upstairs, and the glass and pottery shop. And did I mention the coffee.
